1. The U.S. Securities and Change Fee decides who will get to assign the scores.
The SEC has designated 10 organizations as “nationally acknowledged statistical ranking organizations,” or NRSROs.
The largest 4, and those the SOA institute group focuses on, are AM Finest, Fitch Scores, Moody’s Traders Service and S&P World Scores.
The others are DBRS, Demotech, Egan-Jones Scores, HR Scores de Mexico, Japan Credit score Ranking Company and Kroll Bond Ranking Company.
